“What happened to you?" Mr. Coleman asked.
"I was in a fight, sir," I said.
"Over a girl?"
"No, sir," I said. "Over a horse."
Mr. Coleman looked me up and down. He grunted. "I hope you gave as good as you got."
"No, sir," I said evenly. "The horse came away without a scratch."
